Department of Geology
Department of Geology was established in the year 1968. The Department deals with Geology- “A Systematic Science of the Earth’.The B.Sc. Programme in Geology provides answers to many curious questions arising in the minds such as – age of the Earth, origin, composition, structure etc., why Earth tremble, why do volcanoes erupts, how to read Rocks, Structural features and reconstruct the chronological sequence of events that occurred in the remote past of Earth’s history. The Mission of the Department is to provide value based education as well to develop insight understanding of various processes operating inside and outside the Earth, through knowledge based papers in Physical Geology, Crystallography, Mineralogy, Petrology, Structural Geology, Stratigraphy, Paleontology, Economic Geology and very basic fundamental concepts in Remote Sensing. The students are exposed to classroom Seminars, presentations, learning through models. The Department has a well maintained Geology Museum. The Geology Lab is well equipped, where the students are educated to identify Minerals, Rocks, Fossils, Structures, Crystals, Geomorphological features, analysis and interpretation of Geological maps, in order to have better understanding of theoretical knowledge with practical knowledge, in a eco friendly learning environment. The Department makes use of best practices in teaching by continuously upgrading with LMS and ICT tools like- Google Meet, Google classroom to aid teaching and learning. Students are not only motivated but are encouraged to pursue higher education and careers in Geo-sciences and related fields. Students enthusiastically participate in various activities like Science Exhibition, Annual function, attend Camps of NCC, NSS etc. and have won prizes. The results of the Geology students are cent percent. They are place in various organizations and Institutes.
