The department of Geography was established in the year 1969 in the present building known by “Madhav Science College”, Ujjain. At that time Prof. A. Koul was the incharge & head of the department. A year later Prof. S.Singh was the incharge & head of the deapartment.Prof S.Singh was joined by Prof. M.L.Nath in the year 1977.Prof. M.L.Nath was promoted and posted in the year 1995. In the same year Dr.A.K. Shrivastava have joined the department & at present is the head of the department. Dr.S.Singh retired in the year 2006.Dr.D.P.Chaturvedi joined in the month of June 2011.Dr.Pramila Baghel Joined in the Month of Septamber 2019. The department has two sanctioned post and both are filled.

The objective of the course is to acquaint the students with Geography as a discipline and as a distinctive field of learning in social science as well as in natural science. The philosophy and methodology behind the course is such that the students develop a keen interest in the subject and pursue it for higher studies. It also objects at widening the vision of the students along with the changes taking place in the surrounding such as globalization and Geo-Informatics particularly in the field of Geography In the last five years changes have been made in the syllabus to meet the requirements of the subject in context of recent changes which have been taken place at national & international level.
Students who have passed 12th class with minimum of 45% from Arts and Science stream are eligible for Geography.

In the coming years we are planning to introduce a vocation course by the “Tourism Geography” one year Diploma Course.
The course is of three years duration. After successful completion the students are awarded B.Sc. Degree.

• Regular evaluation is made by conducting various activities like surprise tests, assignments and project reports prepared by the students.
• Interactive discussions over the subject related topics are motivated time to time to enhance the knowledge of the students in the concerned subject.
EFFORTS AND PLANS
In the beginning of the session a proposed Time Table is made and worked out accordingly. To develop interest in the students local field trips related to the subject are organized to educate students and provide them field information.
STUDENTS ACHIEVEMENTS
The students passed from this college are well placed in different fields like- Pollution Control Board, Teaching in Executive Services, Banking, Revenue department etc.
LIBRARY
The department do not have a departmental library but we have a college library which contains near about 3000 books concerned with Geography. For references the students also avail the facility of Central Library of Vikram University Ujjain.
