Established in 1892 within the erstwhile Govt. Madhav College Ujjain,affiliated to Agra University by Allahabad Gazette notification of 1892, separate science unit started functioning in 1957, later on shifted to the present building in 1969. College has lush green campus, which covers an area of 5.6 hectors (total built up area of about 40,000 sq.mts.).College has sate of art modern laboratories with high end modern equipments, modern smart classrooms, English Language Laboratoryand e library with sports amenities like indoor sports complex, Gymnasium, yoga hall and playground for outdoor games. Active NSS and NCC units are the USP of the college, College Volunteers have begged prestigious state and National level awards. Despite being Science College we have strengthened the concept of holistic development of students through bringing in concept of value based education through short term courses, short term add on programmes and integrating the concept and respect for Indian culture and heritage through art and Music. Our students excel in the field of art and culture also.

Beneficiary of RUSA1 under component 7 for development of infrastructure andselected among top beneficiaries of World Bank funded MPHEQIP initiative by department of Higher education Govt. of M.P.College has 73 full time teachers working towards the holistic development of studentsmajorityof the facultyhold Ph.D. as highest qualification, 17 Faculty are research supervisors. Research interest of the college lies in Nano science, Synthetic and medicinal chemistry, Photochemistry, Mathematical modelling, Ethno botany, immunology, Computational Biology and Cheminformatics.
College is declared as Institute of excellence for higher education in 2018 by Department of Higher Education Govt. of M.P.One among top ten colleges of Madhya Pradesh selected for establishing collaborations with other Institutes of National and International repute under CEQIC, College right now has active MOUs with organizations of National and International Repute.
Govt. Madhav Science PG College offers UG, PG and Ph.D. programmes in Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and Mathematical sciences under science faculty through conventional as well as Self Financing modes. College also offers distance learning programmes affiliated to Bhoj University and is Study center for these distance learning programmes. College offers 2 programmes with 30 combinations in UG classes, 6 PG programmes , 2 PG Diploma and 4 Ph.Dprogrammes for academic flexibility to students Strength of college was 3215 in 2019-20 leading to a steady increase in the GER since 5 years post NAAC accreditation in cycle 2 .Despite of the presence of purely girls Colleges in the near vicinity in the same city college has succeeded in increasing the number of female students in the college and bridge the gender Gap in the college. We are also moving steadily towards decreasing the dropout rate. Average result is 88% for UG and 96% for PG classes, every session 4 to 5 students are securing merit positions. College is offering Learning outcome based Curriculum framework to the students based upon Bloom’s Taxonomy and Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy.Most of the college faculty are well versed with modern teaching methodologies and are teaching in Blended mode. We at Govt. Madhav Science PG College Ujjain believe in Learner centric teaching methodology and use various learner centric methods like Seminars, workshops, Problem solving, assignments and mind mapping to teach.
Business Incubation centre at the college is continuously striving hard to improve the graduation outcome of students through incubating startups on campus and working relentlessly towards increasing the placement scenario with career guidance and Placement cell of the college. College imparts skill based trainings in every session. Advanced Instrumentation Research Facility is on one side committed to provide state of the art infrastructural support not only to on campus but also to off campus students as per policy, it also extends its Tech support to skill development workshops related to Instrumentation like IR, UV, MOS, water solution system and HPLC etc.
In continuation of its pledge to the environmentally healthy and benign practices college has analyzed its Carbon footprints through various audits like Green audit, Environmental Audit and Energy audit.
College has developed itself into a major center working towards the Eco restoration practices through our innovative environmentally benign&pro-environmental practices like organization of popular seminars and webinars like Young Scientist Dialogue, challenges of sustainable development, Economics and Ecology, River literacy campaigns and participation in huge plantation drives along the banks of Shipra and Narmada apart from inhouse plantations. College has in house capacity for solid waste management. College has pioneered itself in the establishment of 40 KW off grid Solar power plant (RESCO Roof top model).
